Jewish Department of Religious Freedom (JDRF)


I. Legal Status & Mandate

Parent Ministry: Department of Justice, United States of Biafra

Constitutional Basis: Freedom of Religion, Equality Before the Law, Communal Autonomy

Mandate:

To protect, regulate, and promote the free exercise of Jewish religious life in all its recognized expressions within the United States of Biafra, while ensuring harmony, constitutional compliance, and peaceful coexistence with other religious communities.

II. Executive Leadership

Responsibilities:

  • Overall administration and strategic direction
  • Policy coordination with the Department of Justice
  • Oversight of all divisions and units
  • Representation of Jewish religious affairs at the national level
  • Ensuring constitutional compliance across religious activities

2. Advisory Council on Jewish Religious Affairs

(Chaired by Commissioners)

Composition:

  • Orthodox Judaism
  • Conservative Judaism

  • Judeo-Christian Communities
  • Messianic Jewish Communities

Functions:

  • Provide doctrinal and ethical guidance
  • Advise on policy development
  • Mediate intra-Jewish disputes when requested
  • Serve as a consultative body during constitutional or legal review

Meeting Schedule:

  • Ordinary sessions: Annually or biannually
  • Extraordinary sessions: As circumstances demand

Note: The Council is advisory, not legislative, preserving the separation between religion and state authority.

V. Autonomy, Law & Peace Units

6. Communal Autonomy Unit

  • Safeguards the right of Jewish communities to self-govern internal religious affairs
  • Recognizes legitimate religious authorities, including rabbinical councils
  • Prevents undue state interference in doctrinal matters

7. Policy and Legal Affairs Unit

  • Drafts and reviews laws, regulations, and policies affecting Jewish religious life
  • Ensures alignment with the USB Constitution and international norms
  • Advises the Director-General on legal risk and compliance

8. Conflict Resolution & Mediation Unit

  • Mediates religious disputes internally and externally
  • Coordinates with local authorities to prevent escalation
  • Applies restorative justice and dialogue-based mechanisms

9. Cultural Heritage & Education Unit

  • Preserves Jewish religious and cultural heritage
  • Develops educational materials on Jewish history and diversity
  • Promotes public understanding of Judaism

  • Maintains official records of institutions, clergy, and sites
  • Supports evidence-based policy making
